The endurance test

Polyx®-Oil Original 3032 at Oslo Airport

OAK FLOORING FOR MILLIONS OF AIR PASSENGERS

Polyx®-Oil Original protects wooden flooring effectively and durably. But, can the oil and wax based product hold up against the extreme wear and tear of an airport?

Gardemoen Airport in Oslo has recently been expanded in order to eventually accommodate up to 30 million air passengers per year. For the expansion, airport management focused on Scandinavian design with lots of wood – protected by Osmo Polyx®-Oil Original.

TESTS IN BOARDING LOUNGE

The Oak flooring in the new terminal should be protected with Polyx®-Oil, but before the application, the flooring company put the wood finish to the test in the already existing Terminal 1. Nearly 47.000 m² of the boarding lounge was coated with the classic Polyx®-Oil Original 3032 Clear Satin. So the very same product that was first developed in the Osmo production facilities 30 years ago.

High resistance to high heels and trolley wheels

After a year of intensive use and routine appropriate maintenance, it was clear: thousands of high heels and trolley wheels a day could do the surface protected by Polyx®-Oil Original no harm. In other words it passed the endurance test.

In total, Polyx®-Oil Original was applied to 28,000 m² in Terminal 1 – and also in the new Terminal 2, it was applied to another 19,000 m². Also in high traffic areas, in restaurants and in duty-free shops, the contractor placed their trust in Osmo Polyx®-Oil.  After five years of construction, the first areas of the new terminal could be taken into commission in September 2016.
